Good Neighbor Program
"I was naked and you clothed me" Matthew 25:36
The Good Neighbor Program helps provide clothing to school-age children.
Many families struggle to make ends meet and cannot provide adequate clothing for their children. The Good Neighbor Program allows community members to help each other out by donating clean, gently used or new clothing to a child in need. Providing children with care packages of clothing not only takes the burden off of the family, but can also help make a child feel more comfortable and confident to face the school day when they know they will have a clean, weather appropriate, well fitted outfit to wear.
How does the Good Neighbor Program hear about a child or family with several children who are in need?
Referrals are made to the Good Neighbor Program from Schenectady County Schools' teachers, nurses and social workers. We also receive referrals from Schenectady Department of Social Services, community organizations, area food pantries and parishes.
How You Can Help
For more information, call (518) 347-0871 or email email@example.com
Thank you!! to everyone who donated clothing or monetary gifts during our recent "Back-to-School" clothing drive, held in each of our individual participating parishes. Due to your efforts, we were able to provide clothing packages to 82 children before school began.
We continue to fill requests for clothing throughout the school year and therefore still need your help. Please spread the word that the Good Neighbor Program is always happy to take clean, gently used or new clothing, sizes infant through adult. We are always in need of new underwear and socks.
Monetary support is also welcomed as we often need to buy an item or two when our inventory is low in a particular size and a child has an immediate need for that size. If you would like to make a gift today, go to our DONATE page and indicate in the comments that your donation is for the Good Neighbor Program.
Thank you again for being Good Neighbors!!
Your donations to the Good Neighbor Program matter:
"I just want to thank you and your program for the clothing and especially the sneakers and boots for my student. He was SO EXCITED to wear his new sneakers and show them off. It was so nice to see him feeling good about himself and most importantly wearing shoes that fit so that he is comfortable...Thank you again for all that you do." (Excerpt from an email sent by a Schenectady City School Social Worker)
"All of the families we gave clothing to were so grateful and overwhelmed - please thank your volunteers and thanks to God for providing!" (Excerpt from an email sent by a Schenectady County Social Services Caseworker)
