Good Neighbor Program
"I was naked and you clothed me" Matthew 25:36
The Good Neighbor Program helps provide clothing to school-age children.
Many families struggle to make ends meet and cannot provide adequate clothing for their children. The Good Neighbor Program allows community members to help each other out by donating clean, gently used or new clothing to a child in need. Providing children with care packages of clothing not only takes the burden off of the family, but can also help make a child feel more comfortable and confident to face the school day when they know they will have a clean, weather appropriate, well fitted outfit to wear. How does the Good Neighbor Program hear about a child or family with several children who are in need?
Referrals are made to the Good Neighbor Program from Schenectady County Schools' teachers, nurses and social workers. We also receive referrals from Schenectady Department of Social Services, community organizations, area food pantries and parishes. ![]() How You Can Help

Thank you!!! to everyone who has donated clothing or monetary gifts to the Good Neighbor Program. Due to your generosity, we have been able to provide clothing packages to 270 children since the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. In addition to school clothes, 57 of these children received winter jackets, 102 were provided with new sneakers or winter boots. All received new underwear and socks and many warm winter hats/gloves/mittens and scarves were given out.
Please spread the word that the Good Neighbor Program is happy to take clean, gently used or new clothing, sizes infant through adult. We are always in need of new underwear and socks and in the winter we also ask for jackets, snow pants, boots, hats, scarves, mittens and gloves. (NOTE: We have plenty of storage space so please don't hesitate to give us off season items. We will just keep them until needed.)
Monetary support is also most welcomed as we often have to buy an item or two when our inventory is low in a particular size and a child has an immediate need for that size. If you would like to make a gift today, go to our DONATE page and indicate in the comments that your donation is for the Good Neighbor Program.
