History

The Works of Mercy Initiative (WMI) was born out of the implementation of the Called to BE Church Pastoral Planning process.  Concern was expressed about ensuring there were not gaps in Pastoral Care services for elderly Catholics who were perhaps uncertain about where their new church home would be as mergers were executed.  There was also general uncertainty about how to best use the available resources throughout the Schenectady Deanery* collaboratively in carrying out Christian Service ministries.  It was determined that the WMI would be the avenue to provide a coordinated effort to unite the individual parishes of the Schenectady Deanery* in Pastoral Care and Community Outreach efforts.  The WMI intends to be forward looking in terms of the reality of the Deanery over the next five years.  The Initiative will seek to re-energize Pastoral Care and Community Outreach ministries.  Efforts will focus on maximizing efficiency by preventing duplication and coordinating resources.
